The following history was
written by brother Ed Marciniak, the chapter's first herald, taken from an early
chapter pledge manual.
Feb. 14: Sara, one of Wayne London's friends, gave him
the idea to start a fraternity.
Feb. 15: London mentioned the idea to Albert Reyes, who
was a member of Sigma Pi's Beta-Mu chapter at the University of Mississippi.
Feb. 16: At the first meeting, London discussed the idea
of a fraternity with 11 friends and future members at noon in room 162 of
Osceola Hall (a private student residence hall on the edge of the FSU
campus). Osceola Hall is considered the birthplace of Eta-Epsilon.
Feb. 28: The first social event, a canoe trip, took
place at the FSU Seminole Reservation.
Feb. 29: The first meeting with a national
representative of the fraternity, Andy Morse, took place at the Ramada Inn.
March 13: The second social event was held at
Wakulla Springs.
March 14: The 31-member group became an official
colony of Sigma Pi at the Oglesby Union.
March 16: The first jersey day.
March 27: The first dress up day.
April 2: The first fund raiser, a car wash, took place
at an Amoco gas station.
April 17: Social Chairman Sam Morgan put
together a social with the Alpha Gamma Delta sorority. By this time, there were
65 active members in the colony.
April 19: The colony was approved by the FSU
Interfraternity Council.
Aug. 15-22: The first rush took place. Rush Chairman
Mike Rosen and Pledge Chairman John Whitehead helped the Alpha pledge class
assemble.
Nov. 17-19: Eta-Epsilon chartering weekend.
Nov. 17: National representatives arrive in
Tallahassee.
Nov. 18: The pledge test is given to colony members in
rooms 314 and 315 of the Oglesby Union.
Nov. 19: Nationals grants our charter and
the colony officially becomes the Eta-Epsilon chapter.
