An amazing opportunity has come to me.  I have been nominated to participate in The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s “Man and Woman of the Year” campaign. 

 

The Man & Woman of the Year Campaign is an annual tradition in the Palm Beach area.  Each year eight to ten business and community leaders vie for the title of Man & Woman of the Year by raising funds for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.

 

As some of you may remember, I helped with The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society campaign last year.  I am involved because I believe a cure is right around the corner.

 

Funds raised are really making a difference, but we still have a long way to go. Cure rates for some forms of childhood leukemia have risen from 4% in 1960 to nearly 82% today. Furthermore, you may have heard the news about recent breakthroughs such as Society-funded research, Dr. Brian Druker’s discovery of Gleevec (the “magic pill” that is curing 90% of chronic myelogenous leukemia (CML) patients). However, incidences of lymphoma are on the rise, and leukemia is still one of the leading disease killers of children in our country.

 

Money raised will be used for research and patient services.  I am proud to let you know that 76.2% of all funds raised by the Society go directly to mission-related activities – an outstanding percentage compared to other health-related non-profits!

 

A gift of $100 will fund one researcher for a day.  A $500 donation will test seven people as potential bone marrow donors.  $1,000 will provide ten children with a one-month supply of medication.  You can join the fight against cancer by supporting my “Man of the Year” campaign.
